Yen Trades Near 1-Week Low on Prospect U.S. to Make ‘Bad Bank’

Jan. 28 (Bloomberg) — The yen traded near a one-week low against the dollar and the euro on speculation the U.S. will create an institution to remove toxic assets from banks’ balance sheets, reviving demand for higher-yielding assets.

TOKYO, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Asian shares rose on Wednesday, helped by gains on Wall Street, but Japan lagged as exporters such as Honda Motor Co (7267.T) lost ground on news that U.S. consumer confidence has slumped to record lows.

FOREX-Dollar up vs yen, dips vs euro before Fed decision

TOKYO, Jan 28 (Reuters) - The dollar edged up against the yen on Wednesday as an improved appetite for risk prompted investors to dump the safe-haven Japanese currency, while the dollar dipped versus the euro as players awaited the outcome of a Federal Reserve meeting.
